Our Story

Daniel & Jeanette Tostenson

The Beginning: Daniel penned the iconic “Qwiznibet” poem while sitting in a Carl’s Jr. in Castaic, California, enjoying a cup of coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. This spontaneous moment sparked the creation of his first book, Introducing Odee Dickens and Qwiznibet Square Junction, and set the foundation for the Qwiznibet brand. However, it wasn’t until 2009 that the story truly began to take shape and unfold.

Fun Fact: Since tying the knot in 2000, Daniel and Jeanette have always believed they were meant to explore the whimsical world of Qwiznibet, a place where rhyme reigns supreme. Their playful rivalry began early, as they constantly tried to out-rhyme each other in casual conversation. The contest is still going strong—who will come out on top? Only time will tell!

With over two decades of combined experience in the entertainment industry, Daniel and Jeanette bring a wealth of knowledge to everything they do. Daniel’s career spans on-camera acting for film and commercials, hosting and spokesperson roles, as well as voice-over work for major national campaigns. Jeanette has worked as an executive assistant to a director in Los Angeles, in addition to her roles as a graphic designer, audio/video editor, and managing partner in media production. Their diverse backgrounds and broad skill set extend beyond entertainment, with a shared passion for specialty foods, making them uniquely equipped to navigate and create in multiple creative fields.

Daniel and Jeanette Tostenson began their food business journey in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, starting with a certified kitchen at the local YMCA. Their dream was to bottle up Grandma’s time-tested recipes, especially her famous sloppy joes, and share them with a new generation. But it wasn’t just about the flavors—they believed these recipes could spark nostalgic memories of simpler times and family traditions. After two years in Fergus Falls, the couple moved to the Twin Cities in 2011 to grow their brand and take the next step in their journey.

After relocating, Daniel and Jeanette revisited the inspiration behind their original poem and began crafting their debut children's picture book, Introducing Odee Dickens and Qwiznibet Square Junction. The book features a colorful cast of quirky cartoon characters that embody the heart of the Qwiznibet brand. Interestingly, many of these characters also had their own unique recipes, which perfectly complemented the essence of Grandma's treasured culinary creations. One standout character is Henrietta, a charming 1950s-style "Leave it to Beaver" mom—who just so happens to be a cow! As they worked to create magical moments and lasting memories through both the stories of the Qwiznibet characters and their homemade recipes, Daniel and Jeanette found the perfect balance. And from this blend of creativity and nostalgia, Qwiznibet Foods was born.

Qwiznibet’s specialty food brands feature Henrietta’s Sauces, Hornsby’s Dessert Sauces, and Mrs. Fromley’s Specialty Dessert Jams. Jeanette’s exquisite jams include unique flavors like her Lavender Twist, inspired by her French heritage. The Qwiznibet brand seamlessly blends traditional recipes with innovative touches, drawing from Daniel’s Midwestern roots and Jeanette’s rich German and French background.
